Weekend away in... Oudtshoorn

My boyfriend Bryce and I decided at the beginning of last week that we desperately needed to get away for the upcoming weekend.

We were curious to explore Oudtshoorn and its surrounding areas so I immediately started googling to find a place to stay. When I came accross the Berluda website, after searching for accommodation in the Oudtshoorn area, I knew that this was the place. We were not dissapointed, and had a wonderful experience at Berluda.

Oudtshoorn is a town in the Klein Karoo, South Africa -  renowned for its natural beauty and ostriches.

In the beautiful Schoemans-hoek Valley, halfway between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves, you will find Berluda; a wonderful guesthouse with an equisite 4-star farmhouse as well as a number of charming cottages.

After driving around for a while exploring Oudtshoorn we came across the gorgeous little coffee shop & bakery, Cafe Brule, in Baron Van Reede Street.  Part of the Queen's Hotel, this little gem serves the most delicious cappachinos and a variety of cakes.

Light meals are served between 07:00 - 17:00 and freshly baked bread is available every day.
What a lovely spot. ♥

After leaving Cafe Brule we realized it would soon be time for dinner and we began looking for a restaurant on the main road (Baron Van Reede Street). We drove past a number of places but Kalinka caught our eye and on walking in we just knew we would not be disappointed.

Both Bryce and I had the Beef Fillet which was grilled and served with chunky roasted vegetables, baby potatoes and a sherry mustard sauce. The fillet and vegetables were cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious.  The service was first class and it was a great evening all round.  We will definitely visit Kalinka again.

One of the many things I loved about Oudtshoorn and its surrounding areas was the picturesque countryside with its many characterful farm houses and labourer cottages; I just wanted to take a picture of every single one as we drove past.

3 little houses in the distance

On Sunday morning after a hearty breakfast at Berluda, we left Oudtshoorn to explore Uniondale - a lovely little village close by to Oudtshoorn which is accessed through the picturesque Prince Alfred’s Pass.

We took time to drive around in search of antique shops to browse through.  We found the Uniondale Lodge, a very inviting place, where we enjoyed Illy cappachinos.  It is filled with antiques and antique jewelry was displayed in the lounge area.

I especially loved the antique vases on the coffee tables... ♥
