how to.. make your own pretty Christmas tree decorations... or everyday wall decorations!

♥ get creative, & make your own Christmas tree decorations this year!

You will need :
Modelling clay, (You can buy this at most Arts & crafts stores, costs about R50.00 for a brick of it.)
Gloves to protect your hands
Cookie cutters (hearts/ stars/ circles)
A knife
Glossy newspaper / magazine paper to work (the clay sticks to most surfaces)
Lace or textured material
Clear glossy spray paint
String
A tea bag, some hot water & a mug
A thin, round object to punch a hole through your decoration

Notes :
I used JOVI Modelling clay, and I used a old material coaster to emboss my clay. (You can use anything that has texture to it)
I didnt like the white string, so I dyed it using Five roses tea.
Leave your clay decorations out in the sun for a day or two, depending on how thick you have made them. The clay is air drying.
I sprayed my dried decoations with Spectra spray, clear gloss to seal them & give them a slight sheen. (avaiable at most hardware stores, about R30 a can.)

Enjoy.. & have fun ♥

Devi Chand of HippieKingdom is an artisan from India who loves to make things... and she makes awesome eco friendly jewellery :

An Eco Friendly hemp bangle bracelet made from thick hemp (jute) cord with intricate braided colorful silk thread pattern, wound on sturdy upcycled cardboard.

A statement necklace with a spiral pendant made from thick hemp cord with intricate braided silk thread pattern. The pendant hangs from strings of wooden beads and has a sterling silver hook for closure.

An Eco Friendly Bangle made completely out of recycled materials - Glossy newspaper strips neatly wrapped on thick cardboard ring.

An innovative Eco friendly piece of jewelry. The ring is made of a roller paper bead that I lovingly handcrafted from glossy newspaper sheets. The paper beads are made by rolling thick folded newspaper strips. The ring base is custom made from strong recycled card board.

i bet they dont have this at the mall....

Try doing your Christmas shopping online this year, you just might surprise yourself,
and your loved ones too.

I have done a lot of my Christmas shopping so far this year on Etsy, - an online handmade market where sellers from all over the world sell their unique handmade products.
Here’s how.

Go to Etsy.com (by clicking here)

Register –  quick, simply & easy.

Browsing.. you can search locally.. for etsy stores in SA, or worldwide.

Has something caught your eye?

To buy something on Etsy, one does not need a PayPal account, you can pay through paypal though. PayPal is the most trusted, secure & fast payment gateway there is.

When you follow through with checkout on etsy, click on “ Don’t have a paypal account?”

You will need to enter your card details, aswell as your address etc – remember to use the same information your bank has as this is how PayPal verifies it is you who is using your card. It is THAT easy.

When you go into checkout on paypal, it will let you know just how much exactly you are spending in Rands. As etsy items are listed in dollars, while you are browsing work on roughly R7.80 =  $1.

Got some time on your hands? Why not make a treasury ( a collection of items you love on etsy ) Its fun, I promise. If it gets noticed, it might even be featured on the front page of Etsy.

Clickable : ♥

Here are some fabulous South African etsy stores to check out too :

i love... this little stop outside plett ♥

My boyfriend & I recently went up to Cape Town for the Kings of Leon concert (which was ridiculously.. amazingly fantastic !) we stopped a lot along the way but one place in particular that caught my attention was the little road side stop outside Plett where you can find The Heath .. a bohemian style shop featuring wonderful handmade items, soaps, food etc etc - beside Jade's Cafe, a great place to stop over for some delicious coffee & a bite to eat.

I bought two gorgeous mugs... I am in love with them ! I make coffee now even when I dont feel like it.

Contact The Heath :
email :  info@ilovani.co.za
Tel: +27)
(0) 44 532 7724

I highly recommend stopping & enjoying this wonderful place, theres plenty to do.. & its a great place for kids to play & take a break from a long trip.
